THE CANAL BY BIKE
With its 210 km of bike paths, from Bouin to L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer, the Vendée offers enough to criss-cross a good part of the Vendée coast. There is only the embarrassment of choice.
Distance : 9.32km
Duration : about 45 min with kids, taking breaks.
Step : The canal and its lock
When leaving the campsite, turn right and follow the Naturefriends road. Take the canal road about 1.12km from the campsite and turn right. Follow the canal to the Pont des Loirs.
You arrive at the first stage: the lock.
The canal, dug in 1874, was to allow the drainage of the marsh towards the port of the sands of Olonne
Step : The Bréchoir bridge
Continue straight along the canal. At the end of the road, turn right on the bridge of the bauduère then immediately left on the bridge of the Bréchoir.
You arrive at the second stage: the Bréchoir bridge
This bridge offers a great view of the village of Les Sables d’Olonne. Stop for a moment to admire the view.
Step : The village of l’Aurière
Get on your bike again and pass the Marais Ro footbridge. continue straight and take the first left to discover the Village de l’Aurière
You arrive at the third stage: the village of Aurière
Brooms are small outdoor stairs that lead to the floor of a house.
The “broom” is a distinctive sign of a better standard of living for the rural population of the nineteenth century.
Step : Want to go further ?
At the junction, continue straight. At the end of the road, turn left on Chemin de la Mouline. At the roundabout, go straight towards Rue des Sternes. Go up along the trail to get back to Rue du Général Charette. Go back to the campsite.
